How to Choose a Sofa

This is a big decision and a long term investment which is essential to get right.

Key considerations are comfort and, of course, style.

There is also an element of practicality in terms of size and shape so that the sofa can serve your lifestyle.

What to consider:

How much support do you require? Firm and structured support or soft and slouchy which you can sink in to?

You need to measure carefully and be mindful of traffic flow, size and proportions.

What kind of style suits your home?  A traditional shape with turned legs, frill or kick pleat skirt? Or a modern style with tapered legs or square feet?

The shape – do you want a straight sofa or L-shaped? This can depend on what sort of room it is destined for and whether it is formal or informal.

Do you want back and seat cushions?  Soft back cushions invite you to fall in to it and can add some extra support but there’s less plumping without them and you can always add some smaller cushions instead.

The finer details need to be considered; will it be piped, not piped or contrast piped?  This can help with definition and make the sofa stand out.
