A Secret Door

We love to create unique elements in all of our projects.

Val D'Isere Chalet, French Alps - Lucy Marsh Interiors

In this case we incorporated a Secret Door which allows for an element of surprise and playfulness as well as being practical and aesthetically pleasing. Here the Secret Door is incorporated into the bookcase of the Drawing Room of this Hampshire Country House.

We used Farrow and Ball Oval Room Blue which is rich and atmospheric and perfectly sets off the colours of the books, also tying in with Soane Britain’s Karun Thakar printed linen curtains.

A Secret Door provides a playful element to the overall design of the room.

It is practical in terms of adding storage, and is valuable from an aesthetic perspective, layering colour and adding detail to the space. We chose to incorporate the secret door into the bookcase here because the client is an avid reader and owns a large collection of books.

We love to incorporate books and bookcases into our projects. There is nothing more cosy and welcoming than a bookcase filled with rows of colourful books, old and new: travel books, biographies, novels, and complete sets of historical literature. A collection of books says so much about a family, their interests, and their own story.

Here the faux leather books down the centre of the library were installed on the secret door to the kitchen. They have been customised for the client, with personalised book tiles and authors specific to each member of the family, including the dogs.

Beyond this Secret Door in the Drawing Room is a further Secret Door from the Kitchen to the Dining Room. This we installed to tie in with the kitchen cabinets, and to allow additional storage space.

It incorporates shelving and a fridge freezer inside the cupboards.

We also created Sliding Secret Doors in our project in Cadogan Square.

This was to allow the doors to be part of the bookcase in the Drawing Room, so that the room could be closed off from the Study.
